Abstract
This paper presents an analysis of the recent evolution of the shorelines of the municipalities of Sagunt and Canet d'en Berenguer. The main new is the use of Landsat images - with a spatial resolution of 30 m -to deal with a specific methodology developed by the research team they belong to the authors, can detect the position of the shore at the moment the taking of the
image with an accuracy of about 5 m (RMSE). This allows take advantage of
a large amount of mages (in this case 50) between 1984 and 2009 available from the USGS database.
It has been estimated the rate of change over the whole period and
also in two sub-periods (1984-2000 and 1999-2009). The results show the
dominance of accumulation in most of the study area mainly caused by the
introduction in 1982 the port Siles. However cumulative processes were
particularly higher in the first sub-period in the second. The study of changes along a year on three occasions has given not only to draw conclusions on how to change the width of beaches but also on their morphology (slope) and textural characteristics.
