Abstract

This research work focuses on the study of new documents exhumed in the Valencian archives dealing with the construction of the high altar of Valencia Cathedral between the XIV and XV. Silversmith Pere Bernés, co-author of the silver altar of Girona cathedral , is presented as the main master of the Valencian altarpiece from the initial period until his death. The final responsibility for the work would be in the hands of his most outstanding disciple, Bertomeu Coscollá. This latter artist, an expert on the silver work, reveals himself as an ambitious and confident character to the point of receiving a higher salary than his master and putting his signature on the finished work
