Study of the current ripple of a modular DAB DC-DC converter with interleaving

Abstract

This paper presents the analysis of a modular bidirectional DC-DC system with battery storage based on single phase Dual Active Bridge (DAB) converters with interleaving. The DAB topology exhibits a high input and output AC current ripple at high power which usually implies big capacitors at both sides. This paper studies the use of interleaving in order to reduce the AC current and the capacitors size. A simulation of a 3 kW system is presented for a single, dual and triple DAB module. The results show that n modules can reduce in a factor n the RMS capacitor current, and in a factor n2 the voltage ripple. Interleaving can reduce the filter requirements and cost, thus increasing lifetime and providing reliability.
