Abstract

The performance of different titanium dioxide samples as photocatalysts has been studied for the detoxification of solutions containing amixture of four pesticides, namelyoxydemethonmethyl, methidathion, carbaryl and dimethoate.Laboratory-scale experiments were performed under UV irradiation to assess the performance of six samples and it was found that Degussa P25 and Kronos 7101 were the most effective ones. Then, the reaction was scaled-up and experiments were performed in a pilot reactor under solar irradiation. Degussa P25 proved to be the most effective catalyst detoxifying the pesticides mixture after about 400 min of irradiation. In comparison, solar photo-Fenton experiments were also performed leading to pesticides detoxification after only 40 min of treatment.
