Abstract

Different methods for Co incorporation in natural sepiolite have been studied in the preparation of catalysts to be applied in the Steam Reforming of Furfural (SRF). Among them, precipitation method allowed to prepare a Co-based catalyst highly active and selective to produce hydrogen. In addition, the production of undesired products (CO, acetone) decreased significantly. Characterization by BET area, XRD, TPR and TEM showed that precipitation method allowed to synthesize a Co-based catalyst with smaller and highly disperse Co metallic particles. These differential physico-chemical properties seem to be the major responsible of the better catalytic performance exhibited by the Co-based catalyst prepared by precipitation.
