Water supply sectorization according to water and energy efficiency

Abstract

Water losses represent one of the major problems in water distribution system (WDS) management. To reduce and control theses volumes, distribution networks are divided into district metering areas (DMA’s) (small parts the network is divided into, thus allowing easy management) in accordance with empirical procedures. In this paper, a systematic methodology that provides new approaches to the design of DMA distribution networks in order to minimize water and energy consumption is proposed. For this purpose, the knowledge acquired in the Master’s Degree in Hydraulic Engineering and Environment has been applied to a real case.
