Acoustical properties of porous absorbers made from perlite

Abstract

Granular materials have been studied for different acoustic treatment due to their sound absorptive and sound insulating properties. These products, combined with cementitious, polyurethane or expoxy binders, show a good degree of structural strength and durability with high values of acoustic absorption [2], [3]. Expanded perlite is often used in lightweight concrete constructions. Ray et al. [1] preliminarily investigated the utilization of perlite fine waste as an alternative to supplementary cementitious materials. The purpose of this work is to experimentally investigate the acoustical properties of this clay, loose and mixed with a polyurethane resin having different concentrations and low thicknesses.
