Abstract
The use of virtual instruments has attracted a rising interest in the academic field as a
learning tool, especially in technic and scientific areas, due to the fact that it simplifies the experimental
setup while reinforcing the key concepts knowledge base. This paper shows the contribution and
experience developing Virtual Instruments of the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Universitat
Politècnica de València. Particularly, a Virtual Instrument designed for the reactive power compensation
is presented. This Virtual Instrument, named as SmartLabReactive, has become a key tool in the
laboratory lesson.
