Food waste characterization as a resource for biogas production in anaerobic treatment processes

Abstract

Food waste was characterized for its potential use as a resource for anaerobic co-digestion with urban wastewater. High COD concentrations (61570 ± 14570 mg COD·L-1) and 73 % of biodegradability will increase biogas production through anaerobic digestion. 90% particles exhibit size < 0,5 mm after grinding in commercial food waste disposer.
