ITINERARY IN EL CABANYAL

Abstract

El Cabanyal is a protected historical complex or area that forms the seafront of the city of Valencia along with El Grao, Malvarrosa and Nazaret. Its privileged enclave has brought a unique morpho-typological landscape development, with its remarkable urban layout resulting from the plot of the fisherman’s barraca and its traditional and vernacular typology. Thanks to these characteristics, the building was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1993. The present situation of El Cabanyal is one of sharp deterioration and neglect of its original population. In order to save its cultural heritage, the design of an itinerary is suggested, documenting the residential architecture, the unique buildings and the significant urban spaces. The methodology to be adopted is the following: 1. Preliminary analysis of the complex • Historical data • Typological study of the traditional architecture • Formation and urban development 2. Selection and documentation of outstanding elements. 3. Design of the itinerary Presenting an itinerary of El Cabanyal is a quality strategy to save the heritage and raising awareness of the complex is a first step to its conservation.
