Abstract
Humic-like substances isolated from organic wastes (soluble biologiacal substances, SBO) have been
employed as chemical auxiliaries for the treatment of effluents containing emerging pollutants (pesticides and
pharmaceuticals). In particular, they have been used as complexing agents for iron to allow implementation of
solar photo-Fenton processes at mild conditions. Experimental design methodology has been employed to
determine the effect of operational variables (pH, reagents concentration); the efficiency of different SBO have
also been compared. Finally, experiments were scale up to pilot plant and the reaction driven at mild pH
conditions under real solar irradiation
