Small-scale Fading Evaluation in Vehicular-to-Vehicular Communications

Abstract

Vehicular-to-Vehicular (V2V) communications are receiving considerable attention due to the introduction of the intelligent transport system (ITS) concept. To design, evaluate and optimize ITS applications oriented to vehicular safety based on wireless systems, the knowledge of the propagation channel is vital, in particular the small-scale fading distribution. From a narrow-band V2V channel measurements campaign carried out in an expressway area near the city of Valencia (Spain), this paper analyzes the experimental distribution of the small-scale fading. This experimental distribution is compared to the analytical distributions used in wireless communications to model the fast fading: the Rayleigh, Nakagami-m, Weibull, Rice and 𝛼-𝜇 distributions.
