Abstract

Operational control simulation of a Kaplan turbine requires the knowledge of its hill diagram. Nevertheless, the information that the graphical form of this diagram presents is limited to a zone around the best efficient point, which reduces its possibilities of utilization. In this paper the simulation of a Kaplan turbine operation when a change in the generator load occurs is presented. To carry out the simulation the graphic form hill diagram is adjusted to analytical forms, which allow extending the simulation beyond the zone covered by the available data.
