Abstract
As a result of the DANA of 29 October 2024, the Economic Activity Areas (EPAs) located
in the affected municipalities of the province of Valencia have suffered different levels of involvement; from which they have been able to recover their activity within a few days, and without any significant change in the processes they developed, to others which ended up in a state of complete ruin. In the medium term, there are different scales of damage or limitation in their activity: either by the conditions of deterioration of the installations themselves; damage to communication infrastructures or urban networks (telecommunications, electricity, water, gas, sanitation, ...); the breakdown of supply chains; the effect on the workers themselves; or even, in many cases, the failure of companies to renew their activities. This article reflects on the industrial configuration of the metropolitan environment of Valencia and the criteria for the location and design of the EPAs which will make it possible to avoid, or at least significantly mitigate, the consequences of similar events in the future.
