Beam-steering methods for high-gain antennas is a paramount in modern mobile broadband communications The goal to design low profile antennas suitable for mobile vehicles (like trains, planes, trucks, boats) is a priority to unleash the Ka-Band potential also in mobile environments. Today's available beam steering solutions are based on mechanical parts steering (bulky satellite dishes) or on active phase-arrays (with high consumption and expensive scalability). This mechanical phase shifter allows a simple and efficient method for this aim. This invention uses Gap-waveguide technology with an innovative Mechanical Phase Shifter in Ka-Band to achieve high efficiency beam steering. · Contactless Gap-waveguides: - Ridge Gap-waveguides RGW - Groove Gap-waveguides GGW · True Time Delay (TTD) phase shifter, thanks to arc shaped guides with different lengths · Suited for slot array antennas · Dual dimension beam steering, to achieve elevation and rotation, with mechanical movements: - Upper fixed block (where the antenna array is located) - Lower rotatable block - Variable length waveguides between blocks
