This document discloses a method for slice selection in Zero TE (ZTE) pulse sequences. In the proposed method, a Spin-Locking (SL) pulse is used for slice selection, followed by a Preservation Block (PB) consisting on a number of radio-frequency (rf) manipulation pulses engineered to preserve the slice's magnetization and recover the coherence after the onset of the readout magnetic gradient. This document further discloses an apparatus to implement the above method. Other objects and advantages of the invention will in part be obvious and will in part be apparent from the specification and drawings.
